About this work
A soldier, full-length, carrying a spear (lance) horizontally at shoulder height with both hands, his right hand at the base of the weapon (no. 14), ca. 1600. This is the third movement for lowering the spear to pass under an archway. Plate 14 in the instructions for handling the spear: Corte onderwysinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, belanghende t'recht ghebruyck, van al t'ghene een Soldaet int handelen vande Spies noodich is.
