About this work

A soldier, full-length, seen from behind, carrying a pike horizontally at nose height with both hands, his right hand at the butt of the weapon, his face turned to the left (no. 29), ca. 1600. Plate 29 in the instructions for handling the pike: Corte onderwysinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe belanghende trechte gebruck, van alle t'ghene een Soldaet int handelen vande Spies noodich is.
