A soldier on guard, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) with both hands at his right side, his right index finger on the trigger, the barrel angled upward (no. 36), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the barrel of the musket, a lit match. Plate 36 in the instructions for handling the musket.
