About this work
A soldier on guard, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) with both hands at his right side, his right forefinger on the trigger, the barrel pointing diagonally upwards (no. 36), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the barrel of the musket, a burning match. Plate 36 from the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderwysinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, belanghende t'rechte ghebruyck des Roers.
