About this work
A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) with both hands in front of him, the barrel pointing upwards, to bring it to his left side (no. 20), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the barrel of the musket, he holds a lit match. Plate 20 in the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderwysinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, belanghende t'rechte ghebruyck des Roers.
