About this work

The naval battle off the coast of Sluis, where the eight Spanish galleys under Federico Spinola (who died in this battle) are defeated by the States fleet of three ships and two galleys under Joos de Moor, 26 May 1603. In the distance above, the coast of the Western Scheldt with the towns of Breskens, Schoondijke, Oostburg, Sluis, Knokke and Damme. At the top, a one-line inscription in Latin; below, a subtitle of three verses of four lines in Latin. Above the print, the title with an explanation of the numbers; at the bottom, a description of the events in German. Part of the illustrations for a journal of the siege of Ostend 1601–1604.
