About this work

Monument commemorating the folly of the year 1720. On a large cart driven by a jester, Fortune scatters shares of the Companies. The cart is drawn by, among others, personifications of the South Sea and Mississippi Companies. The cart is led by Fame towards the poorhouse and madhouse. Around the cart, traders and victims. On the right background, the Quincampoix coffee house. At the bottom, the emblem with the motto Schijn Bedriegt in Latin. The caption contains the explanation of the representation in French and Dutch. Print in the bound first edition (304 B 10) of Het Groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid with satirical prints on the Wind Trade or Share Trading of 1720.
