About this work
Satirical print on the (non-existent) Committee of Health, 1795. A group of Dutch and French charlatans around the Dutch Maiden of the Batavian Republic, depicted as an old ugly woman with bare breasts. One of the charlatans has opened her vein and blood spurts into a dish in her lap. The standing citizen on the right is likely the surgeon Willem Leurs, who wrote a treatise on bloodletting.
