About this work

The Destruction of the Aristocracy, allegorical decoration erected on the Westermarkt in Amsterdam for the Alliance Festival on 19 June 1795. Hercules (the Dutch people) defeats the seven-headed hydra (aristocracy and family government). Illustration in the Batavian Revolution and Alliance Almanac for 1796.
