About this work

The Destruction of the Old Constitution, allegorical decoration erected on the Botermarkt in Amsterdam at the Alliance Festival on 19 June 1795. Decoration in the form of the ruin of a Gothic chapel, on the central chassis the Envy turns the wheel of aristocracy which sets a millstone in motion. Illustration in the Batavian Revolution and Alliance Almanac for 1796.
