About this work

The two rounded rectangular pots (A and B) rest on a foot built from two arched, tapering sections above a straight-walled base, standing on four spherical feet. The body rises higher on the sides. The double-arched, tapering lid is crowned by a spherical, ribbed section that is pierced on the pepper shaker. On the lid is a spherical knob. On the body, rosettes are applied up to about two-thirds of the height. A fillet runs along the upper rim. Below this are two handles in the form of lion masks with rings through their mouths. The pepper shaker has a removable lid, while that of the mustard pot is hinged and has a small semi-circular opening into which a small spoon can be inserted. The lid of the mustard pot is gilded on the inside.
