Lid of a Round Tobacco Pot, Decorated with Applied Garlands and Medallions

The round tobacco pot has a removable lid and rests on three cast feet in the form of a bird's claw on a sphere. The feet are attached to an openwork border running along the underside of the body, consisting of ovals connected by rosettes, closed at the top and bottom by a pearl border. The body is slightly tapered at the bottom and bulges above. It has a low straight rim decorated with a pearl line. It is chased all around with a laurel wreath, attached to a ring on both sides from which a straight wreath hangs, and on the front and back above a medallion hanging from a bow. The cast medallions depict allegorical female figures, one with a cross, the other with an anchor, representing Faith and Hope respectively. The lid has a flat outer rim, decorated in burnished style with a band of two wreathed ribbons with rosettes, between wavy borders decorated with points. Rising within is a high vaulted, fluted section, crowned by a wide straight rim with a pearl border.
