About this work
The oval tray has a hollow vaulted wall with an applied, cast rim of lying, partly punched C-scrolls and flowers. Bean-shaped handles are cut out on the short sides of the wall. A double-profiled, applied band runs around the underside of the wall. On the inside of this, a strip of zinc is attached with screws, fitting into the recessed base. This is lined with green felt but was originally probably filled with wood. On the center is engraved a motif of two wings with a star and tail between them, below which the text IL FAUT on a ribbon.
