About this work

Silver salt cellar. On a rectangular, four-ball-footed base stand on either side of the handle two half-spherical, internally gilded vessels on four lion's claws; each vessel is decorated with two ring-bearing lion heads and a narrow profile border. The handle as a pillar widening upwards with four lion's claws on a plinth. From above a knob with two lion masks carrying a flat lamp with two flames. Mark of The Hague: climbing lion; year letter I (1804). Master's mark F.S. by Francois Marcus Simons. See footnote 170.
