About this work

This cupboard is a sophisticated example of the art of the ebony worker, the furniture maker who veneered his work with precious exotic woods. The almost black ebony and the much lighter rosewood are used effectively, optimizing the contrast between their colours. The cupboard is primarily a work of art: its lock is hidden behind the central pilasters, and the drawers are without practical, but obtrusive knobs.
