Tablecloth with the Sacrifice of Abraham

Linen damask tablecloth with the Sacrifice of Abraham. Central field: the symmetrical pattern displays five scenes from bottom to top: 1 Isaac kneeling on a pyre behind whom Abraham stands with a sword, held back by an angel. 2 Abraham bareheaded, kneeling, with a censer before an altar from which smoke rises, containing the word of God in indistinct letters; above it a ram emerging from the bushes. 3 Abraham, in a long cloak, seated on a bench, addressed by angels; in the background a house with a woman in front (Sarah?) and the words: GEN. CAPT. XXII. Above this follows a repetition of scenes 1 and 2. Vertical and horizontal borders: symmetrical floral scrolls and birds; outside these: block border. Hem: double open hem on the short sides.
