About this work
In the foreground stands the winged personification of Time on the zodiac, holding a mirror in his right hand and a snake biting its own tail in his left, a symbol of eternity. Behind him, four putti before a ruin. The two putti with the sun and moon crescent write history. In the background, another personification of Time with an hourglass, possibly a reference to Charon, the ferryman of the underworld. Above, a three-line text in Latin; below, a three-line text in German.
