About this work
The griffin sits on a rectangular plinth, formed from an elongated dog-like body with wings extending from the shoulders and an eagle's head with a crest on the neck; the front of the neck is covered with tufts of hair. An iron rod is attached to the lower jaw, to which an object (perhaps a lamp?) may have hung.
