Fragment of a Dragon Carpet

Fragment of an Eastern carpet, a so-called dragon carpet. Central field: divided into compartments. A brown-black ground is divided into pointed lozenge shapes by intersecting elongated lancet leaves in yellow and red. On the latter, a blue duck. Large rosette, palmettes and lotus flowers, yellow on the intersections of the yellow leaves, red on the red ones. In the lozenges, alternating a lotus, a dragon and possibly an animal figure (phoenix?); the dragons in white and petrol-green with speckles. Fine sometimes doubled contours, both angular and sawtooth-shaped. Border: (originally on the sides, now on top and bottom) white ground with double angular scrolls of green with flowers in red, blue and yellow.
