About this work
Mahogany (?) armchair, upholstered in 18th-century blue damask, originally from a Japanese chair. The straight S-shaped legs placed diagonally extend into the seat frame and, like the carved front rail, feature floral decoration. The rearward-placed straight S-shaped stretchers support the armrests with cushions, ending in a volute. These extend into the hollowed back frame with S-shaped stiles. A small elevation on the top rail is decorated with an eagle holding a cornucopia and trident, surrounded by foliage.
