About this work

Fragment of a tapestry depicting May and June, belonging to a series of ten with the months, elements, seasons, day and night. The series was commissioned by Archduke Leopold Wilhelm, Governor of the Southern Netherlands. This fragment depicts a winged woman accompanied by the zodiac sign Gemini, representing the month of May. Five other tapestries from the collection also belong to this series (inv. no. BK 15310 a-d and BK 1959-65).
