About this work

Folding fan with a leaf of black bobbin lace (Chantilly) on a mount of imitation tortoiseshell. Mount: the smooth unadorned legs show a swelling shoulder in the middle. In the open position the legs are joined. Lace technique: bobbin lace of black silk. On a coarse mesh ground the romplis in net stitch and is surrounded by a thick thread. Lace pattern: on four sides runs a stiff border of oak leaves and an inner border with lattice work and dots. In the field stands a symmetrical flower vine, originating from three roses and a grape leaf in the center.
