Border of Bobbin Lace with Two Alternating Oval Cartouches and Berry Branches

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: old Brussels bobbin lace. The strip is used or intended for an alb (undergarment of a priest). The repeating pattern consists of two different oval cartouches with a flower branch in the center. One cartouche is larger and occupies, with the double frame at the top, almost the entire width of the strip. Under the smaller cartouche stand similar curved berry branches which at the large cartouche are just above in the double frame. The cartouches alternate. Besides by the berry branches the cartouches are surrounded by leaves, rosette flowers, flower stems and C-volutes. Along the underside of the strip lies a series of berries, berry branches, flowers and leaves, under arches formed by flower and leaf branches. The motifs are made in net stitch and linen stitch with openwork edges and without contour threads, but are provided with bobbin-made relief contours, so-called ribs, at different places.
