Alb strip of bobbin lace with candelabrum motifs

Strip for an alb of natural-coloured bobbin lace: Old Flemish lace. The symmetrical pattern consists of a double row of candelabra motifs, alternating in two variants. One motif features a tulip vase between leaves in the form of C- and S-scrolls, surmounted by a vase with flowers in a diamond shape of four hollow shells formed by leaves and flowers. The other motif features a vase with flowers between four leaves in the form of S-scrolls, surmounted by a tulip vase also standing between leaves in the form of C- and S-scrolls. The motifs are worked in linen stitch with cut-outs. The motifs are connected by a mesh ground, and various motifs feature a decorative ground. The lower edge is finished with a shell border derived from the pattern. The upper edge of the strip is finished with a separate bobbin-edged border surmounted by a woven border. The ends of the strip are sewn together.
