Half Border of Bobbin Lace with Fan and French Lily

Half alb strip of natural-colored Brabant bobbin lace. Richly nuanced light lace with a repeating pattern, which consists of two types of symmetrical compositions of flowers, leaves and architectural forms. One composition consists of a baldachin under which a fan- or palmette-shaped vase, surrounded by flowers and standing on a hollow-arched edge with diamond filling. The other pattern consists of a bowl from which a pomegranate and an obelisk-like pointed diamond shape rises, crowned by a French lily. The motifs are connected to each other by a picoted plaited ground, here and there the plaiting runs behind the motifs. The motifs are made in loosely bobbin-made linen stitch and net stitch and is sporadically provided with bobbin-made relief contours. A great variety of decorative grounds is used within the motifs. The scallops along the lower edge derive from the pattern. The top edge is finished with a straight edge, as are the side edges which are also provided with picots.
