About this work

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace: fine Brussels floral work. The repeating pattern consists of two largely symmetrical compositions of C-volutes and daisies. One composition along the lower edge of the strip comprises two C-volutes facing each other, placed against one another at the bottom. Along the outer side of the volutes are large increasing lobes, the three largest forming a lobed shell. Between the C-volutes are two calyx flowers and a daisy, with a hanging palm leaf above, crowned by three rosette flowers. The other composition consists of three strongly curved C-volutes beneath a long horizontal C-volute. A row of seven connected rosette flowers below forms the other lobed shell. Above the horizontal C-volute is an asymmetrical arrangement of larger and smaller rosette flowers and daisies. The motifs are connected by a picoted plait ground. They are largely worked in openworked linen stitch with openwork edges and cutouts.
