Needle lace strip with palm motifs and feathered leaves

Strip of natural-coloured needle lace: Point de France. Pattern with symmetrical motifs including a hanging fan-shaped flower and a hanging palmette motif flanked by feathered leaves and at the bottom flanked by horizontally placed thick short stems with at each a fan-shaped flower at the end. The motifs are built up from festoon stitches with cutouts and are connected to each other by a mesh ground of festooned and picotted spindles, which are arranged in series of hexagons. Fillings with various ornamental stitches and some motifs or parts of motifs are provided with relief contours with or without picots. The irregular shell border originates from the pattern and is finished with picots. The upper side of the strip is finished straight with a bobbin lace strip in linen stitch. The short sides are finished with a picot border for which a different thread was used, which may concern a later addition.
