About this work

Strip of natural-colored Brussels bobbin lace. The pattern consists partly of symmetrical compositions of among others candelabras and mirrored S-shaped leaf scrolls. The motifs are largely made in linen stitch with openwork edges and cutouts. Part of the motifs is made in net stitch with cutwork relief contours. The motifs are connected by different but similar trellis grounds. As decorative ground a rose ground is applied. The top edge of the strip is finished straight with a separate cutwork band in net stitch, in which shiny threads are strung that form a diamond pattern. The irregular scallop edge comes from the pattern and is finished with picots.
