Strip of bobbin lace with palm-tree-like appliqué

Strip of natural-colored Brussels bobbin lace. The symmetrical pattern consists in the center of a cartouche in the shape of a coat of arms, formed by curling leaves and volutes. A palm-tree-like motif is applied in the cartouche. The shield is flanked by various small flowers, connected to each other by picoted braids. On the short sides, half of a lobed cartouche is visible. The fields in all cartouches consist of a fine mesh ground, a drochet ground. The work is largely executed in linen stitch with openwork edges and some cutouts, and partly in net stitch. Most motifs have cutwork relief contours. Ornamental grounds, including a snowflake ground, are applied in the frames around the cartouches, and in a triangular field along the underside an ornamental ground is visible with diagonal stripes. The upper side is finished with a separate cutwork band. The scalloped underside is finished with picots.
