Strip of needle lace with wavy ornamental border and grape leaves

Strip of natural-colored needle lace: Brussels mesh lace. The repeating and largely symmetrical pattern consists at the bottom of the strip of a continuous wavy decorative band which is crossed at regular intervals by an oval. Hanging below each wave crest is a grape leaf and below each wave trough three more or less heart-shaped leaves. Above the decorative band, leafy branches hang straight down from the top of the strip, alternating a branch with a grape leaf and a shorter branch with smaller leaves on both sides. Around the leaves fine curling tendrils and spirals with linked ovals (grapes?). The motifs are built up from festoon stitches and provided with relief contours. The motifs are connected to each other by a fine mesh ground, a mesh lace ground, on which some knots have been applied. Decorative stitches have been applied in the decorative band and the largest grape leaves. The scalloped edge is formed by the hanging grape leaves and heart-shaped leaves.
