Strip of bobbin lace with floral ornaments

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Mechlin lace. The repeating pattern consists of a continuous ornamental band alternating a horseshoe-shaped cartouche and a trapezium-shaped cartouche. In both cartouches hangs a carnation downwards to the lower edge of the strip. At the outside of the horseshoe springs from the top on each side a curling stem. On the left side a stem with a goblet flower and three rosette flowers and on the right side one rosette flower. The motifs are made in linen stitch with cut-outs and with thicker and shiny contour threads. The motifs are connected by a fine lattice ground, the Mechlin ground. Ornamental grounds are applied in the cartouches including a snowflake ground. The scalloped edge follows the pattern and is finished with picots. The top side is finished straight.
