About this work
Linen damask napkin depicting the recapture of Landau by the Allies during the War of the Spanish Succession. From bottom to top it shows the arms of the Holy Roman Empire, Holland, and England, a city view of the besieged fortress of Landau (weaving: LANDAVW), the arms of Austria, a field marshal on horseback crowned by an angel, and a crowned double eagle, all within a broad band of armorial trophies; below the city gate of Landau the arms of Kortrijk are depicted.
