Strip of needle lace with three medallion motifs and vines

Strip of natural-coloured needle lace: point de France. In an apparent tangle of scrolls and flower buds, various symmetrical compositions can be distinguished, including scrolls forming cartouches and surrounding a rosette flower, or further on a heart with a rosette flower beneath. The motifs are made with buttonhole stitches and decorative stitches. Very slight relief is achieved by the way part of the scrolls is made and around the flat buttonholed motifs. The motifs are connected by picoted bars forming an irregular hexagonal bar ground. The top edge of the strip is finished straight with a narrow bobbin-edged band. The bottom edge is finished with an arched border.
