About this work

Medallion carpet, type USHAK. Central field: on a bright red ground, four large half-hexagonal medallions closely packed in ultramarine blue with pale yellow contours. The side medallions are filled with a light blue rhombus and salmon-colored palmettes in the tops. The lower and upper medallions are halved rhombuses in red with diagonal lines and stems. On the ground, palmette and rosette flowers in red, white, and black. Border: multiple. The middle one is blue with quarter rosettes in red, white, light blue, salmon, and yellow. Inner selvage in blue, outer selvage in red, with equal S-shapes in the mentioned colors. Note: probably England, Axminster or Wilton? Or Asia Minor, Ushak.
