Room Screen with Five Frames Covered with Batiked Trip

Five-panel screen of mahogany. The five rectangular frames rest directly on the floor. The four side frames are all provided at the top with a band, inlaid with ebony, with on the stiles larger and on the rails smaller hanging triangles. The central frame has a superstructure and two, slightly higher raised, stiles and a lower top rail. Between the top rail and the superstructure is a panel of ebony with at the top a border inlaid with ivory. The superstructure has the shape of a segmental pediment and contains ebony inlay in the form of two bull's horns with in between five hanging points which are inlaid inside with triangles and circles of ivory. The frames are covered with batik calico. The batiks on the front and back are mirrored relative to each other. The side panels contain geometric forms and the central panel the Dutch Lion. The central panel is red, the intermediate panels yellow and the side panels blue. Between the frame and the panels is a narrow border of ebony.
