About this work

Fireplace screen consisting of an oak frame containing a batik. The frame, resting on four high triangular legs, is rectangular with the stiles protruding. The rails and stiles are connected by mortise and tenon joints. At each joint, the heads of two ebony peg nails are visible. The batik is protected on the front by a glass plate and on the back by fine brass mesh. The batik features an ornamental pattern of pikeperch in blue (indigo) and brown (cachou).
