Square Cashmere Shawl with Dark Blue Plain Field, Bordered with a Single or Double Row of Small Bouquets

Square palm shawl of woven silk with a sapphire blue plain centre, with along the two field borders a row of small left-facing palmettes in orange, yellow and light blue, alternated by small flower bunches. The orange outer border along the entire circumference of the shawl, is decorated with small equal-shaped palmettes in blue, yellow and green, between two strips of white-green and white-orange rosettes. The technique consists of a warp and weft of silk. Twill weave in the centre, but in the grounds of the border and strips is plain weave. Balanced pattern, with in the lying borders a pattern of the weft, but in the standing borders is the pattern of the warp. On the reverse side the long threads are left floating.
