About this work

Cuff of natural-colored ribbon lace (mixed lace): Luxeuil lace, with a woven ribbon and needle lace fillings. Shallow V-shaped model, with rectangular ends and a widened triangular center. The symmetrical pattern consists of motifs whose contours are formed by a narrow woven ribbon. In the center stands the largest flower with a three-lobed center, flanked by volutes from which a triangular point hangs, and crowned by a small circle from which three leaves spring. Next to this central palmette flower stands on each side an openwork oval flower, made with two sickles placed against each other, two oval leaves and in each upper corner a three-lobed flower. The three-lobed flowers and the central flower have a raised (relief) and festooned circular flower heart. Within the contours with which the motifs are formed, decorative grounds are applied (needle lace) with coarser yarn than used for making the ribbon. The motifs are connected to each other by a bar ground (needle lace).
