Linen damask napkin with conquests of cities in the Southern Netherlands by John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough, in 1706. Central field: the symmetrical doubled pattern shows from bottom to top the following scenes: 1 Foot combat. 2 Field commander and cannonier. 3 City views: MEENEN, DENDERM[onde], AEHT and OSSTENDE. 4 Field commander on horseback; DVX DE MARLBOROVGH. 5 Coat of arms Marlborough. Standing borders: volutes, doubled by stelpen. Lying borders: volutes.
