Sirih box of Amboina root wood with silver fittings

Sirih box, rectangular, made of Amboina root wood with silver mounts. The box has a hinged lid; the lid and base feature a profiled edge. The interior is painted red. It stands on silver feet. Mounts in flame-like leaf shapes adorn the corners of the lid and sides, and serve as backplates for the side handles. The lock plate is shaped like a betel or areca nut; a cartouche is centered on the lid. Four rosettes surround the lock plate, and similar rosettes appear on the lid. A silver key with a handle shaped like a heart held between two nagas. The hinge plates end in openwork motifs. A silver chain connects the box to the lid. Marks: on hinge plate: wreathed sword = Batavia; WC = master craftsman; monogram DB = Daniel Boudewijn? Batavia, 18th century.
