About this work

Linen damask napkin depicting the conquest of Buda and Pest. The symmetrically doubled pattern shows three scenes from bottom to top. 1 A cannonier firing a cannon in the presence of two soldiers. 2 City view, above which are OFFEN and BUDA (Offen is the German for the Slavic Pest). 3 Equestrian portrait of Leopold I, Emperor of Germany, with the text: LEOPOLDUS D.C. ROMANORUM IMPERATOR. Double standing and lying borders: coats of arms and trophies; outside these: block border.
