About this work

This tapestry depicts several scenes from the mythological tale of Atalanta and Meleager. The goddess Diana sent a huge wild boar to destroy the king of Calydon's kingdom. In a fierce pursuit, the swift huntress Atalanta inflicts the first wound on the creature. Thanks to her, the king's son Meleager is able to slay the boar. In the left background, he offers Atalanta its head in gratitude.
