About this work

Linen damask napkin. Central field: depiction of a farmhouse with two coats of arms and ribbons above it with respectively 1835 A and C 1919. The left coat of arms is unclear (Carnegie?). The right coat of arms is of the United States. Inscription in cartouche: CARNEGIE . BIRTHPLACE // AND // MEMORIAL. Around a border of linked cartouches containing respectively a ship's bow; a harp; a burning heart within a laurel wreath; a globe; a burning fire under an arch; a still life with a book, oil lamp and inkwell with a feather; a dove of peace; a palette and a mask; a medieval ship. On the left side, woven in: WOVEN IN DUNFERMLINE.
