About this work

Linen damask napkin with the coat of arms of Cornelis Hop. Central field: symmetrical pattern of various volute scrolls with blocked thickenings at the knots. Between them a lying oval shield with a coat of arms of Cornelis Hop (1685-1762), ambassador at the court of King Louis XV of France: quarterly, 1 and 4 head-bird standing on a sphere (the bird of 1 reversed, that of 4 looking back); 2 and 3 two turned wings. Heart shield divided: 1 a fess, 2 a five-pointed star on the right, a water bird on the left. The shield topped with a five-petal crown. Supporters: on the right a turned eagle, on the left a turned lion. Borders: trophies of arms. Corners: roundels. Around blocks border.
