About this work

Linen damask napkin with the coat of arms of Cornelis Hop. Central field: symmetrical pattern of various volute scrolls with checkered thickenings at the nodes. Between them a lying oval shield with the coat of arms of Cornelis Hop (1685-1762), ambassador at the court of King Louis XV of France: quarterly, 1 and 4 a head-bird standing on a globe (the bird of 1 reversed, that of 4 looking back); 2 and 3 two wings turned away. Heart shield divided: 1 a fess, 2 right a five-pointed star, left a wassenaar turned. The shield covered with a five-leafed crown. Supporters: right a turned eagle, left a turned lion. Edges: armorial trophies. Corners: a roundel. Around a checkered border.
