Folding fan with a double leaf, the satin front featuring an elegant aquatint scene in color after the painting 'Le prétendu' by Prosper-Etienne Berne-Bellecour, depicting a young couple in Empire dress together with an older couple dressed according to the fashion of 1780, on a bone mount machine-carved with geometric decorations. Sitting on a wooden garden bench is a soldier holding wool threads up with both hands, while a woman seated next to him on the bench spins a ball of thread. To her right, an older man (her father?) leans with an elbow on the back of the garden bench holding an open book, while an older woman (his wife?) leans forward toward him holding a book. The group is surrounded by a tree and bushes. The satin leaf is lined with a plain linen leaf. The mount is decorated with circles and hatched lines. Metal closing pin, wooden rim, and metal fan ring with a silk tassel.
