About this work

On the front, three putti float on a round pedestal on a cloud, while holding a strongly bulging sail or cloth, behind which four other putti float and tumble, hiding from the strong wind. The cloth functions as a scale. Signed with stamp: J. Chéret (on the side above the round foot). The attached rotatable wooden foot is English and is marked with a round plate: Bellman & Ivey Manufacturers of Pedestals for Statuary &c. to the Queen 1851, Prize Medals 1862, 95 Wigmore Str. W. London.
