Inkwell Case

A cylindrical box with a separate dome-shaped lid, topped by a knob. The turned wooden core is covered with so-called cuir bouilli, black boiled leather, in which motifs are pressed: on the cylinder around a band with a wavy acanthus branch against a stippled background and at the bottom and top bounded by a profile border, partly decorated with small wavy lines. The dome-shaped lid is divided into four equal sections, each provided with a diamond pattern. Box and lid have small 'loops' through which a cord can be pulled to keep the whole together and to hang it up. This small case originally contained a glass inkwell. The inside is lined with red velvet (worn).
