Strip of needle lace with hanging hearts

Strip of natural-colored needle lace: Brussels gauze lace. The repeating pattern consists of large semi-circular shells formed by linked lying C-scrolls. Above each volute stands one loose rose with a ray crown of short branches with berries. The link points between the volutes are formed by oval medallions, decorated with a leaf crown. From the leaf crown springs a fine scroll that arches over the rose to the next medallion. The shell border is formed by hanging heart-shaped leaves under the volutes, alternated by three hanging daisies under the medallions. The motifs are built up from festoon stitches and provided with relief contours. The roses have relief leaves. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, a gauze lace ground, on which some knots are applied. Decorative stitches are used in the roses and medallions. The top side of the strip is straight finished.
