Strip of needle lace with hanging hearts

Strip of natural-colored needlepoint lace: Brussels gauze lace. The repeating pattern consists of large semicircular shells formed by linked lying C-scrolls. Above each scroll stands one loose rose with a radiating wreath of short branches with berries. The connection points between the scrolls are formed by oval medallions, decorated with a leaf crown. From the leaf crown springs a fine scroll that arches over the rose to the next medallion. The shell edge is formed by hanging heart-shaped leaves under the scrolls alternated by always three hanging daisies under the medallions. The motifs are built up from festoon stitches and provided with relief contours. The roses have relief petals. The motifs are connected to each other by a fine mesh ground, a gauze lace ground, on which some small flowers are applied. In the roses and medallions ornamental stitches are applied. The top side of the strip is finished straight.
